Mission
As an institution of higher learning, the Kabir Institute of Public Health (KIPH) will provide teaching, research, and service programmes that will prepare students to address the public health needs particularly of NWFP in a setup that will develop academic excellence in teaching and research, academic freedom, leadership and service to society.
Vision
The KIPH aspires to become a centre of excellence in public health training, policy formulation and applied research that is nationally and internationally accepted.
Objectives
The objectives of KIPH are to:
- Produce competent, committed and skilled public health professionals.
- Discover and disseminate new knowledge in the field of public health.
- Assist in the translation of the knowledge into sound evidence-based policies and practices.
Master of Public Health (MPH) Programme
The Master in Public Health (MPH) offered by the KIPH is a twenty four months post-graduate degree programme. It is designed to prepare students to address the broad vision of Public Health which is defined as:
Enhancing Health in Human Population(s) through organized community effort, utilizing Education, Research and Community Services
Objectives of the MPH Programme
The graduates of the MPH programme will be prepared to:
- Solve health-related problems within the financial, socio-cultural, environmental and political framework of Pakistan and its surrounding region.
- Design, conduct, analyse and interpret the results of relevant studies, projects and programmes.
- Initiate, plan, manage, monitor and evaluate interventions in the field of public health.
- Communicate public health messages to diverse audience effectively.
- Advocate sound public health policies and practices.
MPH (Degree) Programme Duration and Credit Hours
The MPH degree programme will be of twenty four (24) months duration, comprising four semesters. The first three semesters will be dedicated to course work, while in the fourth semester the students will complete their research dissertation supervised by one of the faculty members. During the first three semesters, students will be expected to attend all classes at the KIPH.
The total programme consists of 60 credits. According to PMCD Rules “3” Credit Hours be Completed for Each Subject; 16 Teaching Hours = 1 Credit Hour. For Each Subject there shall be 2 Hours/ Week, 8 Hours per Month, 48 Hours per 6 Months and thus 3 Credit Hours per subject for Each Semester. 10 credit hours will be dedicated to Research/Dissertation writing .and field visits.
English will be the medium of instruction and examinations.

Method of Evaluation
The students will be evaluated during each course on the basis of:
- Internal assessment which is a mix of the tests, class and home assignments, class participation, interactive discussions, practical exercises and/or group works depending on the course outline (Internal assessment);
- Summative assessment based on the end of semester examination papers. Summative assessments will be held at the end of first three semesters and comprise of two semester papers each. At the end of Final semester, the students will be examined in the Dissertation work.
The Dissertation work will be assessed through a viva voce examination on the basis of a structured format covering the quality of the project, work performed in the field, data generation and analysis and presentation of results, discussion and conclusions presented as a written report.
Fifty percent marks shall be reserved for the internal assessment and fifty percent for the semester examination paper and dissertation.
Candidates obtaining less than 50% in any of the examinations will be deemed to have failed in that paper/semester of the MPH. A student failing in a paper (when scores of semester examination and internal assessment are less than fifty percent), will be allowed to clear that paper in the supplementary examination to be held within 3 months of the declaration of the result of the semester. However, a student accumulating more than two failures at any stage shall cease to be a student of the University.

Final Evaluation
Candidates passing all the semester examinations shall be declared to have passed the MPH programme and shall be awarded the Degree.
The final evaluation of the students will be as per the existing HEC/University Regulations. The minimum passing marks in each of the subjects will be 50%; however the overall cumulative minimum marks required for passing the MPH programme will be 60%.
Grading of course work is as under:
- Grade “A” 80% or higher
- Grade “B” 60% to 79%
- Grade “C” 50% to 59%
- Fail Less than 50%
